Contemporary wildlife garden, Winchester
The clients approached me to design their family garden to be wildlife-friendly, colourful throughout all the seasons and to complement their modern new build. Apart from an existing mature sycamore and lawn, the garden was a blank canvas.
The scheme fragments from the formal geometry around the patio to more organic and curved in form. A frog pond sits comfortably in the lie of the bank with a raised seating edge against the existing patio. Away from the patio, a tapering of lawn, with focal point at the end, provides space for lots of cottage garden planting. Stepping stones at the end lead through woodland planting, past a den, back to the pond.
