Salt and Tar, Pop-up urban garden, Bootle

This temporary pop-up canal side project for Sefton Council, with Owen Ellis Architects, creates an urban garden and pop up food / events venue in colourful shipping containers - a regeneration project in the heart of Bootle (Salt and Tar).

The moveable planters create a series of informal niches for socialising and stopping to eat street food. As the project evolves the planters can be arranged in different layouts and even moved to new locations. They have been made by Bootle Tool Shed, a local community workshop and planted by Horticon. I designed the plant palette to provide interest all seasons long, a mixture of tough natives and drought tolerant Mediterranean plants and bulbs for spring interest - enlivening the garden and good for pollinators.
